  1. World Book and Copyright Day is observed on 23 April every year to honour the role of books and promote reading books, particularly among the younger generation. The theme of World Book Day 2023 is “Indigenous Languages”.
  2. United Nations’ English Language Day is annually observed across the globe on 23 April to promote the English language and to celebrate the history, culture and achievements associated with the English language.
  3. Asha Bhosle, the renowned singer, will be honored with the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar award, which was established by the Mangeshkar family and trust in memory of Lata Mangeshkar.  
  4. On 19 April 2023, the Indian Army has signed an MoU with Tezpur University to provide Chinese language training to army personnel.
  5. India has proposed to develop a G20 park in New Delhi to symbolize ‘togetherness on the path of development’ as part of its year-long presidency.
  6. The Assam Government has announced plans to create a Kashi Vishwanath-like corridor at Kamakhya temple.
  7. A Madhavarao, who is currently serving as the Director (Technical) at Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Defence, has been recommended as the next Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the company.

  9. Tata Steel plans to set up a 10-tonnes-per-day pilot plant at its Kalinganagar facility in Odisha to produce methanol using blast furnace flue gases.
  10. According to the Hurun Research Institute’s Global Unicorn Index 2023, India has retained its position as the third-largest hub for startup unicorns, with a total of 68 companies valued at over $1 billion.

  12. City Union Bank Limited (CUB) has introduced a new feature that allows customers to use voice biometric authentication when logging into the bank’s mobile banking app, aimed at improving security.
  13. The Election Commission has introduced the Vote from Home option for the first time in the Karnataka Assembly election to encourage electoral participation in urban areas.
  14. The Indian Air Force is participating in INIOCHOS-23, a multi-national air exercise hosted by the Greece Air Force from 24 April to 4 May.  
  15. On 20 April 2023, Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik launched India’s first heavy lift logistics eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-off and Landing) BonV drone on the opening day of ‘Odisha Skill Conclave 2023’.
  16. Official data revealed that Russia remained the biggest supplier of crude oil to India in terms of value in February, even though there was a cap on western prices at $60 per barrel.
